Subject:Today
Time:08:31 pm
So Matt and I lie down on our floor a lot when Isaac is around and awake. I'm not sure why, but it's relaxing and he likes to climb over us. Today he kept on doing this weird, almost-fit thing where he would put himself on the floor. I finally figured out that he was imitating us! Then I got down on the floor and he giggled and sat up and gave me this look like "now you get it, silly parents."

So, Isaac was born with a lot of hair. And, it never came out in any way. So, I'm a little mystified about how it went from this:

I miss noodles so much. This is from Bamboodles in San Gabriel (where else).

Our trip to LA was great. I'm sad we couldn't see even more of our friends from UCLA, but it was hard with the kiddo and all the conferences this past week.

We left with a 12 month old that refused to stand and came back with a 13 month old that now sees the world in terms of what he can pull-up on.

Subject:American Idol
Time:06:41 pm
Despite the fact that American Idol is one of the highest rated TV shows of all time...

I am constantly shocked when people I know talk about watching it. Of course, I haven't watched TV on a TV since... I really don't know when. Christmas?

Subject:Things to do before we go to California on Saturday
Time:11:07 am
40% of Isaac's room at day care has Hand, foot, and mouth disease. This is not good for our trip. Right now I'm operating under the assumption that he has it without symptoms and keeping him away from the playgrounds, etc.

Things to do before we go to California on Saturday.

Hand in grades (almost done)
Fax in day care reimbursement form (so important, ca-ching)
Write paper for IASPM (I have no idea how close I am, but I do have 20 pages)
Go to Salon, get many things done (first hair cut in 6 months, nails, other things)
Have lunch with Almost-Doctor Ray
Choose speakers for next year
ACK, more stuff I'm forgetting...

Update: STUPID STUPID STUPID. I jinxed it all. He's home with another fever and crankiness. So far no sores.

Subject:Things I miss
Time:08:39 pm
We went to the really good record store in Austin this weekend for the FIRST time. The old me would be so embaressed. We bought some Syd Barrett and the John Lennon Plastic Ono Band album.

It mainly just made me miss Amoeba.

Also, someone had recently sold them around 10 used Jandek CDs.

I used to go record shopping at least once a week. In some ways, I can't even believe I used to do that. One really bad experience with my pathetic roommate in NJ soured me on record shopping in some ways, but what really killed it was a lethal combination of dissertation and Mp3s. It was so... foreign to go in and look at the cutout bin, where I used to be so at home.

This is us three years ago. Not a huge fan of this picture of me, but it's one of my favorite pictures of Matt.

Blogging this to say: I think it is time for a hair cut. A drastic hair cut.

Subject:Presentable
Time:12:56 pm
In the past couple days I've: gotten my legs waxed, my eyebrows waxed, and my toe nails painted. I need a hair cut something bad, but that's in the works. I definitely feel more presentable, and as a bonus I can now wear skirts! And sandals! I should be able to wear dresses in about a month as part of my (TMI ALERT) plan on dumping the pump. Not quite weaning, but no more daytime pumping or nursing means I can wear dresses!

I just can't get myself to spend real money on clothes. What I need is to sit down and spend a good chunk of change on a wardrobe that I like. It will save money in the long run. Instead, dribs and drabs and 10-year-old shirts.

Today we went to a nearby development (Mueller) because another mom had said there was a big patch of bluebonnets there. And there was! So, we took pictures. Unfortunately, I am dressed like a slob and need a shower so I turned down the opportunity to be in a picture. Matt, on the other hand had shaved this morning, so he looks great. (He also needs a hair cut, but I like the shaggy look up to a point.)

We need to get more hats, some safe sunblock, and a parasol.

Subject:NPR
Time:08:28 pm
I've tried, but I just can't forgive the Austin NPR station for having crappy, crappy music all day instead of, well, Talk of the Nation! or even Diane Rhiem! or even a Texan Larry Mantle. Think the worst of KCRW (which was bad enough) with endless interviews with fine but not that interesting local artists. Also, their local news coverage is really bad. I liked KPCC because they did such a good job of covering LA.

I've been listening to Rush at times. That's how bad it is.

But at night they have some really good shows.

Our car was broken into again. THIRD time in Austin (we've lived here for 7 months!). Dash destroyed, stereo gone.

Don't even get me started on the "there is nothing we can do about it" attitude of the cops.

Subject:I hate Daylight Savings Time
Time:09:42 pm
So many reasons to hate DST:

1. dark mornings
2. Sunlight/Sunrise blinding me during my commute to work
3. dark mornings
4. fucked up sleep schedule (me, not the baby)
5. it's dumb
6. fucked up sleep schedule

One reason to like it:
We were the only ones out this morning at 10 am, it seemed like.

I remember my last year living in Santa Monica, I started getting up at 6, 6:30 to go walk on the beach. It was so sunny and bright and safe and beautiful. Then the fucking DST came and I couldn't walk that early because it was dark and a little scary. If you did it later in the day: too much traffic and people.

I stand by my evaluation. Also, my weather widget says it will cool down later this week.

Time:02:57 pm
So, I'm working on a project about singing in early hip-hop. I'm not sure how it will work out, BUT I just found this quote from Robert Christgau on Rahiem from the Furious Five:

he can actually sing, thus distinguishing himself from Kurtis Blow, Joseph Bowie, and the entire population of the United Kingdom.

Best part in bold.
